Diplomatic visa shall be issued on diplomatic passports for official purpose. Diplomatic visa is also issued to the accompanying family members.
The diplomatic visa shall be issued by the Embassy for a period of 30 days on the basis of reciprocity. The term thereof may be extended, if required, from the Department of Consular Service, Tripureshwor, Kathmandu for the remaining term of the official assignment in Nepal.

Required Documents For A Diplomatic Visa:
- Original diplomatic passport with at least 6 months’ validity period and its copy
- One recent passport-size photograph (2”X2” size)
- Duly filled in and signed visa application form (download the visa application form here)
- A note verbale from the State Department/diplomatic mission/ international organization or equivalent offices with a request for a diplomatic visa, stating clearly the purpose and period of the visit.
- A travel itinerary
Diplomatic visa application can be submitted in person in the Embassy from 09:30 am to 03:00 pm on weekdays except public holidays (Click Public Holidays). Applicants may collect their passport with visa stamped on them after four working days within the consular hours, i.e. 02:00 pm to 04:00 pm. A self-addressed prepaid return envelope with tracking number is required for returning the documents through Postal Service. Embassy is not responsible for any undelivered passports because of insufficient postage, a weak envelope to bear up the load and other incidents occurred during handling of the documents by postal office/courier.
